extra keeper would help their is a 9th guy I am going to want to keep i'm sure most people/teams would feel the same way, but that's one of the main challenges/strategies of the league. if you want to keep more, we also have a dynasty league that'll need a few new managers next year. but this league isn't going to change in that regard.

fwiw as well...those that "sold out" for this year will see that in many cases it'll negatively effect them next year/in the future. bottom line, the league's set up for quite a bit of turnover year-to-year on it's own...before future pieces are dealt. but it's a give & take between the present & future...and winning this year will be worth it for you. no "dynasties" here...well, unless showtime keeps giving all his keepers away.

Would like to suggest a rule change in draft order for minor league draft. Do not know any real leagues were the league winner gets the #1 pick in the draft like they do in this league. Even if it is for a water down minor league draft. I would like to see draft order go something like finishing position #4 drafting first, then 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, 3, 2, 1... obviously for 2012 on

^^ Fondy's post from the constitution thread. (keeping that thread clean of other posts/debates/etc.)
anyways, that's correct.
GmL years are out the window. But like in the example we came across last year...Trueblue could make Trumbo one of his 8 keepers if he wanted to do that.

btw...any changes that gain momentum, please make a separate thread w/ a poll.
1) we'll get an actual vote 2) it won't get lost in everything else
and if anyone can think of another glaring loophole, plz lmk.

Hypothetical for you (and Im sure its addressed somewhere, but I dont really feel like digging...)
If someone trades for a guy whos got GML years left, you inherit those right?
You still get to keep him as a 'free' keeper?

You still get to keep him as a 'free' keeper? of course...that's their value. the years stay w/ the traded player. the only exception to that rule is when those free yrs are going to a philly fan who won the league the previous year. in that one case, the free years magically disappear.

couple questions that have probably been answered but a quick search found nothing
is the minor league draft the same format/order this year?
and what about guys who are new to the league but won't play a game in any A league (basically Darvish), minor or major draft?

couple questions that have probably been answered but a quick search found nothing is the minor league draft the same format/order this year? and what about guys who are new to the league but won't play a game in any A league (basically Darvish), minor or major draft? yes, regarding the first question. there was a vote to change it...but it was losing, and never was completed...so the drafts will remain the same. working on the second question...in terms of an amendment. people like Ichiro, Dice-K, Hideki Matsui, etc...who go straight to the pros...will be a part of the major league draft. (no GmL years.) people like Martin, Chapman, Tazawa, etc...who go straight to the minors...will be a part of the minor league draft. (w/ the potential GmL years, once they graduate.) since we won't know for sure, pre-drafts, I'll make a thread stating who's eligible where. if i make a mistake on a player, either way, it'll turn out to the owner's best interest. (meaning the player will be eligible for GmL years, if i'm wrong.) in the case of Darvish...if he posts as many expect...he'd be in the major draft. the latest Cuban 26 yr old too, w/ the promo video...if MLB grants him free agency in time, and he's signed by a team.

Cespedes goes in to the ML draft right?

Cespedes goes in to the ML draft right? not sure as of the moment. there's a thread in the draft forum on internationals. and i'm set on everyone except cespedes. as of yesterday, i had him in the minor league draft...no doubts. the guy hasn't played ball in over 10 months...then has a few ABs in the Dominican league, and stunk it up...mainly cuz he was rusty. then today, after the A's signed him, all the articles were saying he'd compete for the opening day roster. so in other words, today has given me doubt. if the guy is going to begin his MLB career in the pros, then he's in the major draft. if he's going to begin his career in the minors somewhere, then he's in the minor draft. i try to figure out where that'll be based upon the information that's out there. and before today, all info pointed to Cespedes needing some time in the minors. anyhow, i'll figure it out before the draft and post in which draft he's eligible to be taken. i'm just going to take what the "experts" think, and go with it. imho, he'll need time in the minors. the DR winter league showed that. but if everyone's still saying (like today) that he should make the opening day roster, that's what i'll go with.

ya that's why I was wondering, everywhere I have seen says the A's plan to use him opening day, which is one of the reasons he signed (along with the lower term)

KLaw:
Cespedes hasn't faced a lot of good pitching and has faced very little pitching of any sort since defecting, so he'll probably be best served spending a few weeks or even months in the upper minors to shake off the rust and get used to facing better-quality off-speed stuff. The pull-happy approach leaves him very vulnerable on the outer half, and that kind of effort makes it hard to stay on the ball unless you've got superb hand-eye coordination. He also showed in his brief stint in the Dominican Winter League that he struggled to pick up spin out of the pitcher's hand, so adjusting to breaking balls probably will be the biggest obstacle between him and major league impact.

ya that's the scouting report, but whether or not he is actually ready isn't the point. It's if people think he starts the season in MLB or AAA, most places I have seen MLB

It's if people think he starts the season in MLB or AAA, most places I have seen MLB nobody said MLB before yesterday though. the whole thing is weird...as OAK has a helluva logjam in the OF too. anyways, it would be a much easier call to make if someone wants to trade up to the #1 minor pick.

I hadn't seen it either, and whether it's the right call is extremely debatable, but to get someone to go to Oakland you have to do drastic things...
