"I hate the limits per position" moving GSRO's post here...well, at least the quote. fwiw, we've always tried to keep it as close to the real thing as possible. so the league always had 9 active bats per day, for 162 games...as well as 1500 innings pitched/season. that said, most wanted an extra bat active/in the lineup on a daily basis. so since we were starting over, i added that 10th bat to the lineup. and to keep it equitable, between categories, i also added 200 innings. if you guys would prefer 9 bats for 162 games & 1500 IP a year, i can move it back to that. otherwise, it's going to be 10 bats for 162 games and 1700 IP as it's set up now. the reasoning behind it was always to emulate a real baseball season as closely as possible. we did that for years...but there was a big demand to get an extra bat/day active.

One thing to remember is that the stats are accumulated over the season and not a week by week basis. Would be 100% against a game limit in a h2h league, but without a limit in this league, it would almost be smart for a team to keep 3 or 4 spots on the roster fluid and make almost daily changes just to get the extra stats. So then instead of rewarding the teams that draft and make changes well, it will reward the person who can make the pick up at 3 or 4am each day.
Would like to hear your reasoning why you hate the game limit. May get me to change my stance on it.

Yeah, im in favor of anything that dissuades streaming....
especially with pitchers
nothing worse than getting beat because someone keeps picking up 4th and 5th starters all year long

Is someone with exactly 130 abs available for the minor league draft? if they're on all the top 100 lists, etc, they're still rookie eligible. but in general, they're not supposed to be once they hit 130.

any minimum IP?

50 IP we had the one exception with dan bard earlier this draft. i'm officially closing that loophole now. ROY eligibility hinges on the following...130 ABs, 50 IP, and that the player hasn't gone over the service time that would make him ineligible for ROY concideration. service time is complex, and can be researched on your own. but the simplest way to put it is this...45 days before 9/1. in other words, september callups don't count towards service time. now i'll provide 2 examples. bard is not ROY eligible, even though they don't count postseason innings. he's at 49.1 IP. however, he spent more then 45 days on the active major league roster prior to 9/1...so his service time makes him not qualify for ROY status. gamel is ROY eligible, even though he's got 131 career ABs...129 last year, and 2 the year before that. the reason is that he spent less than 45 days on the active major league roster prior to 9/1...so his lack of service time allows him to still qualify.

no, I'm asking about minimum innings using pitchers during the league. For example, can I just use a bunch of closers and try to win saves, ERA, and WHIP?

you could....but then youd be pretty much guaranteed to finish last in 2 categories...and if you finish last in 2 categories, you have pretty much no shot to win id think

ok, i haven't played in awhile and saw this strategy when googling. Sounded pretty cheap to me, but if you guys say it doesn't work anyway then that works too.

Yanks won the similar league last year his #'s across the board were 12's wins, whip, k's, era 11's for runs, homers, rbis, saves 7's in SB, Avg
Danger took second with 12's across the board in offense (except for an 11 in steals), he had a 9, 10, 11 in wins, k's, and saves, but a 5 era and a 6 in whip (streaming to get caught up in the first 2 categories hurt)...
But there is no way to get a 1 or 2 in a category and be in the top 3. Heck I took 3rd and my worst rank was an 8... with two 12's

lol. the league had gotten so skewed that there were 7 competitive teams, and 5 that had no shot. mis-managed into obscurity, basically...beyond repair.
it's a shame though, as i was gonna go back-to-back. took over a trash team a few years earlier, and had finally built it into a winner...despite having a somewhat inferior 8 keepers to fondy, danger, and another team.
anyhow...i think that philosophy could work real well in a H2H league. but like fondy said above...you kinda need to be solid across the board to contend here.

yeah, ive done it in a head to head league to moderate success but you cant get away with punting 2 categories in a roto league

an interesting case, so sharing it as an example of international FAs...
wagner mateo signed (again) the other day. i wanted to add him, if possible. typically, intl FAs can't be added until the following february minor league draft...and after they are signed. but mateo was indeed "signed" last July too. the problem though was that he was also released (by the cards) last september, over a health issue. so he wasn't "signed" by a team @ the time of our previous february draft...and thus not available in that draft. anyhow, if there would've been a loophole, it would've been tempting to try to add the kid. there wasn't though...so he'll be a part of the minor draft next year...with all the July intl signings of this year, etc. just thought i'd bring it up, in case it helps explain the rules/etc.
