it's almost here...
by or on 2/15, please be sure to make any minor league cuts (or early promotions). once that's done, you can begin trading.
i've been very busy, so here's how 2/15 will go. at night, i'll go thru every team's cuts &/or early promotions...and update the rosters in the first posts of the individual team threads. then i'll go thru and set the minor league draft order based upon that. and lastly, i'll look at any trades that get posted.
it may take me some time to review any trades though, which might delay the approval process.

speaking of trades...i've given enough warnings about the 2/15 to 3/1 time frame...before keepers are cut down to 8. hopefully some of what i've written or said has sunk in. that said, i've also been warned to expect some possible shenanigans. nothing i can do but hope for the best though.
in any case, just so we're all on the same page, i will be protecting the teams during this 2 week time...moreso then i did last season, or will do once we get to 3/1 and an even playing field again.
every team has a legitimate 8 keepers on their roster. every team also has future pieces w/ potential. not saying not to deal, or not to improve...but saying i'm going to protect against any team being blatantly taken advantage of during this time frame. remember...you need 8 keepers...any one you deal for you must keep...and remember that for any deal to be approved, you must be building for either the present day or the future. if you're building for neither of those things, and significantly damaging your team moving foward for some reason, i'll be forced to be the bad guy & keep that from happening.
is what it is. hopefully it'll work out. if it doesn't...might make an executive decision for 2012 (& on) where all cuts need to be made before trading begins. i've seen another league die...i'm seeing another league struggle big time...so basically feel that if something has to suffer/die, it's much better for it to happen quickly vs slowly. but i'll hold out hope for now that all will be ok...since it's our 1st experience w/ this 2 week time frame in this league.
lastly...my only other suggestions are these, when it comes to future pieces:
- the lower teams from last year have a significant advantage this year in the draft. don't undervalue your draft picks, and the depth you can build with them. it's no longer a snake draft. the best & worst cases with borderline keepers is that they re-enter the draft for the lower ranked teams to secure...w/out having to deal away other valuable pieces to get them.
- GmLs and prospects are great. you know how much i love them. that said, they must carry that potential to still be valuable. once they start to lose that potential, and begin looking like some regular player you can find on the wire mid-season, they're not worth much at all. in fact, they can significantly hinder your team by taking up a roster space that can be filled much better either thru the draft or the wire. in other words...once that potential begins to disappear for a GmL or a prospect...so does all their value. that's the kind of baggage you do not want on your roster, as it will only weigh you (or the whole) down.

back to 2/15... lmk if you have any questions. lmk if you haven't received the yahoo invite. lmk if i can send girlie girl to your house. fwiw, i have nothing in the works...and have no plans at this time to get involved in any trading out of the gate. in other words, i will remain neutral as commish...will not share confidential info...and will not try to get my own team involved in anything discussed. just in case anyone needs help/advice.

for example...w/out names...
say you're keeping 1/2/3/4/5/6/7/8...and you've got whatever draft position suits you.
if someone's "9th keeper" is better then your 8th, and they offer it for some pick. calculate it out.
is 1/2/3/4/5/6/7/8 + pick better or worse then 1/2/3/4/5/6/7/x - whatever pick. remember, much of the stuff will be there (comparatively) in the draft...when you're dealing for assets that won't be kept by another after 3/1...not to mention that you have to adjust for the loss of #8 in the above equation as well. in other words, look at all the "costs"...#8 and the pick...in terms of evaluting the real value of X.
or say someone offers you their "8th & 9th keeper" for your 5th best keeper. is 1/2/3/4/5/6/7/8 + picks better or worse then 1/2/3/4/6/7/x/y + picks. and remember to calculate the losses of both #5 and #8 in the equation, as X & Y will now have to be kept. so you're really calculating the upgrade or downgrade (theoretically) from 5 & 8 to X & Y in this example.
we're all going to have differing opinions on the assets. and (supposedly) we're all adults, (theoretically) able to manage our own teams. just trying to help you look at the big picture as you begin dealing in this 2/15 to 3/1 window. all i ask at this point is to use common sense, to analyze things...and to avoid the point where you know going in that the overwhelming majority will think something is flat out ridiculous. if we can do that, nothing should get vetoed.
